The replacement for the Lincoln MKZ sedan comes in the form of the 2021 Lincoln Zephyr. The Zephyr is the official name, and it is actually an old nameplate. A brand plans to depart from the alphanumeric nameplates and to deliver actual names like most of the manufacturers do.
For instance, Corsair is a perfect example, and now Lincoln is about to introduce a new Zephyr model as well. We believe that the new 2021 Zephyr will arrive next year, and it will come with the rear-wheel-drive characteristics. There are plenty of rumors about this new model, so not all of the things are official yet.
2021 Zephyr Redesign
As we said, the 2021 Lincoln Zephyr will switch to the rear-wheel-drive platform. It is a significant departure from the MKZ model that Zephyr actually replaces. The thing is that the MKZ model is based on the Ford Fusion that will soon end with the production. The new platform will be a unibody architecture, similar or the same as with the current Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs.
Moreover, the same platform will most likely underpin the new Ford Mustang. Lincoln’s engineers won’t deliver a design that will look like the MKZ model. Instead, we should expect a brand-new appearance. Still, some cues could be taken from Lincoln’s lineup of SUVs. No doubts that the new model will look very stylish and elegant.
Luxury Interior Design
Most of the rumors are writing about possible interior design. However, nothing is official when it comes to cabin design and its layout. The 2021 Lincoln Zephyr will surely arrive with a premium interior. The customers should expect a lot of luxury, like with any other Lincoln’s model.
The latest reports are suggesting numerous interior color schemes, wood accents, and additional chrome work. Lincoln will deliver a new infotainment system and larger displays, possibly a 10-inch touchscreen as standard. Lastly, Zephyr will offer a high level of comfort with plenty of room.
Possible Engine Lineup
Details about possible engine options are not available too. However, thanks to the new platform, the 2021 Lincoln Zephyr will most likely get a 2.0-liter engine. This turbo-four unit comes with a CVT transmission, and it should deliver over 250 horses. Optionally, Lincoln could provide a potent twin-turbo engine with 400 horsepower.
This is just a speculation for now, but the standard rear-wheel-drive system is sure to happen. Even the hybrid powertrain is speculation. The rumors are writing about a system that combines standard engine with an electric motor. We are still waiting for Lincoln to release the official vehicle’s specs. Whatsoever, the manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming months.
2021 Lincoln Zephyr Release Date and Price
The all-new 2021 Lincoln Zephyr will most likely arrive at some point next year. Many reports are predicting the first half of 2021. As for the price, it is a mystery at the moment. However, the base trim level could arrive with a price that starts at around $40,000.
We don’t know if Lincoln will offer a hybrid version or the famous Black Label trim level. New Zephyr will be produced in the same Hermosillo plant in Mexico. This plant already builds models such as Ford Fusion and Lincoln Continental.
