For five years in production, the Excursion caused a lot of attention. This was the heaviest SUV ever made. Based on a truck, and not the small one, the crossover was slow, but with powerful appearance and great towing records. We can expect the same from 2019 Ford Excursion.
Nevertheless, the SUV must improve its performance. We will also see where the company is planning to slot it. By size, it is bigger than Expedition. Also, the base on F-250 truck promises big score for towing capacity. Furthermore, stories about Expedition and hybrid engine could also make the 2019 Ford Excursion one of the next electric models.
All in all, there are a lot of rumors about the crossover. The company is still silent. Leaked sources are confirming that Ford plans to return Expedition. Next year, we could see it as a concept for further development.
When is the New Ford Excursion Coming Out?
Release date of the new 2019 Ford Excursion is not certain yet. It is not happening this year. Maybe the more important question could be – is it realistic to expect the return of the crossover? Well, with the SUV industry growing as no other class before, there are many newbies on the market. Companies are usually trying to make models that could fit between segments. Well, compact tier is dominant there.
The 2019 Ford Excursion would be a move to the opposite direction. Full-size SUVs are expensive. That makes them less popular. But, Ford wants to draw attention. The return of some model is always luring old fans’ curiosity. For younger customers, there are big size and power of the Excursion that could make them think about it. To conclude – the spot as the biggest crossover is opened. It won’t be the sole case in 2019, since Audi and BMW are planning launches of their largest SUVs ever.
2019 Ford Excursion Engines
Since it is going to be based on the heavy-duty truck, the 2019 Ford Excursion could borrow the engine from it. The F-250 is using a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. If we compare it to Expedition, it is 15 hp more and 40 pound-feet less. But, the crossover is using a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with a twin-turbo system. This is also another possibility for the 2019 Excursion. In that case, the SUV would be more capable for an off-road drive. Also, handling and agility would be better than with V-8. On the other hand, bigger engine will offer more capability to tow. In both cases, the transmission is certain. It is a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
2019 Ford Excursion Diesel
Since the heavy-duty truck comes with a diesel drivetrain, it could be a solution for 2019 Ford Excursion. Nevertheless, 925 lb-ft of twisting power is too much for a passenger vehicle. Instead, the crossover could drop the turbocharger and use plain 6.7-liter diesel V-8 engine.
Also, designers could find the solution in the new Ford F-150 diesel. This truck is taking the spotlight right now with its PowerStroke mill. Output of 250 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque would be enough for 2019 Ford Excursion SUV.
2019 Ford Excursion Design
It was a long time ago when the truck-based crossovers looked like its siblings. Now, the time changed. To succeed, the 2019 Ford Excursion must fulfill many requirements. First of all, it must be attractive. Being a big SUV will provide eye-catching appearance. No one can miss a huge vehicle rolling down streets. We are not afraid of failure over interior. The latest Sync3 system and bunch of space inside gives a good layout for further building.
The last time we saw the Excursion SUV, it came with an extended body. More capability to tow and more space for passengers are always welcome. What’s more, we can see Ford Expedition with a similar offer from its MAX version. The same idea is for 2019 Ford Excursion.
2019 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price
The 2019 Ford Excursion should appear next year. However, we doubt it will enter the production right after the debut. The premiere and reactions after it will show if Ford is moving to the right direction. Then, the company will decide about the future and plans over the Excursion’s return.
Since it is going to be bigger than Expedition, the 2019 Ford Excursion will definitely cost more. Also, based on a F-250, it can offer some truck-specific features.
I really hope they bring the excursion back with the turbo diesel.
I want it. How do I get on the list! I want diesel and turbo, powerful enough to pull my big ass trailer! Let’s go!!
I am ready to buy now! The expedition is not capable to tow and stop my trailer! Ford need to return the giant SUV for those of us that want them! Prices on used Excursion’s are actually climbing. I just bought 1. I need the capacity to carry tools, and people in the dry interior!

Please Ford, bring the Excursion back with the Turbo Diesel. I sold my 2005 and have been wishing I never did. The Expedition, and Suburban’s just cant tow, and seat 6 passengers. There is a market for this vehicle. PLease please.. move forward and put them into production.
I have hung on to my 2001 Excursion 7.3 for towing our 34’ travel trailer and our 4 kids and dog. Although it is still running strong, I would love to upgrade as this is nearing its 19th birthday. Please bring the Excursion back into production with the turbo diesel. As previously state in this article, it will be the only game in town now that GM has discontinued the 2500 Suburban/Yukon XL.
I would buy one!
