2025 Ford EcoSport Comeback, Replacement, and Other Options

Surprisingly, Ford dropped a crossover from the lineup. EcoSport is not a part of the lineup for this and the 2024 season. While everyone is expanding these segments, the Blue Oval carmaker decided to shred its lineup. But, the 2025 Ford EcoSport might be back. The company won’t give up the market share so easily, especially with rivals building more subcompact crossovers. Chevrolet added the Trailblazer recently, and Nissan Rogue Sport is the first model positioned between compact and subcompact tiers.

Ford might be in the game in both markets. The 2025 Ford EcoSport would be a subcompact vehicle, and the Puma slightly larger model, but still smaller than Escape. We’ll see what kind of changes the company is preparing. The subcompact class is not too popular, but it still has enough buyers to be profitable.

To be more competitive, Ford will have to redesign the 2025 EcoSport. Also, changes are coming for the engine room. But, let’s check what would the crossover look like. It is early to talk about the final styling since all we know about the vehicle are the rumors. Ford won’t give up so easily, although the focus is on the small pickup truck, Maverick. So, there is a future for the compact class. On the other hand, the company discontinued sedans and hatchbacks. The only Ford car still in production in US plants is Mustang. But after the discontinuation of its archrival Camaro, fans are not sure if the legendary ‘Stang will be around for too long.

So, we might look at some new vehicles to predict the 2025 Ford EcoSport design. For example, it can be very similar to the new Maverick truck. Of course, not the same, but more crossover-like. The vehicle won’t be inspired by the current Puma, since its design is getting old. By the 2025 season and the US appearance, the new generation will be due.


Like the exterior, the cabin of the crossover should be all-new. The subcompact vehicle is not offering plenty of space, especially if it doesn’t gain any length. But, it can be used properly if designers get the job right. Again, we can’t talk about details for more than a year until the official debut. And the 2025 EcoSport comeback is yet to be confirmed. In the past, we could hear rumors that the company could replace it. Instead, Ford discontinued it.

We are not writing off the possibility that some other model could replace the EcoSport. There are no names, and experts believe that Puma is more than a logical choice. Yes, it is bigger, but it can serve as an excellent entry-level choice. Escape is the best-seller, but it is way bigger than Chevy Trailblazer, Subaru Crosstrek, or Mazda CX-30.

The subcompact crossover must be more efficient in the first place. The last model before the discontinuation had a 2.0-liter unit under the hood. It was more powerful than most rivals. But, the crossover was returning only 23/29 mpg, which is more than poor. Escape is a leader in its segment and with the hybrid system it offers 44 mpg. Even without hybrids, some rivals can do 35 mpg with petrol engines.

So, the 2025 Ford EcoSport needs a huge mileage boost. As a subcompact crossover, we expect 35+ mpg. To do so, Ford is going to need a hybrid unit. Also, a 1.0-liter is powertrain for some small cars outside the US. With it, the crossover can top 40 mpg and the power is still good enough for the subcompact class. You can expect at least 125 hp.

A hybrid system can boost either this engine or the old 2.0-liter mill. Here, the focus would be on the mileage, while the 1.0-l displacement needs a bit more power. MHEV can do the job.

Not only Ford, but also other manufacturers are dropping small cars and make more space for popular vehicles, mostly crossovers, SUVs and trucks. The Blue Oval already discontinued almost all cars, including Fiesta, Focus, Taurus… Then the EcoSport met the same destiny, but the crossover could be back. The subcompact segment is not dead yet and there are plenty of vehicles available. Chevrolet is still building Trax, while Stellantis group sells Renegade. Plus, Jeep thinks about another subcompact crossover, called Baby Jeep.

Japanese carmakers are also producing a lot of units – Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, Nissan Kicks, Subaru Crosstrek and Mazda CX-3 are available in the US. Hyundai Kona and Kia Soul are Korean representatives. If you want to go premium, then German models are dominating the market. Audi Q3 and BMW X1 are leading the way. Volvo XC40 became all-electric, as well as the Lexus UX. Cadillac XT4 is one of the newest additions to this segment.
