The base model of the 2019 Ford Explorer will use a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. This turbocharged unit comes with great power and good fuel economy. It can produce 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, while the fuel economy is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

The forthcoming 2019 Ford Explorer Sport comes with an astonishing 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 drivetrain. While the base model offers all-wheel drive as optional, this system is standard on the Sport model. The V6 output is capable of creating up to 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is slightly lower, 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Both engines are using a 6-speed automatic transmission.
