2021 Ford Puma is Company’s New Compact Crossover

Blue Oval is introducing an all-new compact crossover that is based on the Ford Fiesta. The 2021 Ford Puma will arrive at some point next year. Interestingly, Puma will be sold in Europe only, at least that is the plan. However, that could change in the near future.

Blue Oval is promising generous interior room. After the latest teaser photos, the design is similar to the Ford Escape model but shrunken. Puma comes with lower ride height and it reminds us of Ford Focus Active. However, this Fiesta-based model is a B-segment crossover. New Puma will deploy a hybrid drivetrain.

2021 Ford Puma Availability and Release Date

Ford teased us with a shadowy image of the compact crossover. At first, Puma should serve as a replacement for the EcoSport model. However, that won’t happen. The 2021 Ford Puma will be built in Craiova plant in Romania.

This crossover will hit the markets later this year, at least that is the plan. Ford will sell new Puma in Europe only. Currently, Blue Oval has no plans to offer this crossover to North America. However, things are changing really fast. Speculations are suggesting the 2022 Puma will be available in the United States. Time will tell.

Exterior Design Rumors

There is so much mystery with the 2021 Ford Puma. So far, we know the crossover will ride on the same platform as Ford Fiesta. Whatsoever, Puma is based on the Fiesta model. This model should represent an upgrade over the aging EcoSport model. It looks dinky, but it also looks modern and sporty.

Puma will be a compact B-segment crossover. It should be about 165.3 inches long. That is four inches longer than the EcoSport model. On the other hand, all we have about the exterior design is the shadowy photos. Judging by those photos, the exterior is similar to the new Fiesta. Still, we are waiting for more specific details.

Interior is a Complete Mystery

At least we know something about the exterior design. On the other hand, the interior is a complete mystery. So far, Ford only said that the interior space will be generous. Blue Oval didn’t go further with details but Puma will offer around 16.1 cubic feet of the cargo area.

Ford said that Puma will deliver the best-in-class cargo room. Interestingly, the trunk is taller than on the other compact crossovers. Besides that, we can’t say anything about the rest of the interior. Sure, we can expect Ford’s basic features, however, design and layout are still unknown.

Solid Power and Great Mileage Figures

Under the hood, we hoped for a surprise or two. However, Blue Oval automaker will offer a 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, as we expected. This three-cylinder unit is built in the same plant where Ford recently produces its millionth engine.

In 2021 Ford Puma, this engine will produce up to 155 horsepower with a hybrid system. The hybrid system will deliver more torque and better mileage. A 43.5 mpg is what the newest reports are predicting.
