While everyone is waiting on the 2021 Corsair to come out, Lincoln added the plug-in variant. The upcoming 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is a plug-in hybrid version that combines efficiency and more luxury. Basically, Grand Touring is better in every category than the base trim level, including the performance. Furthermore, Grand Touring adds more equipment and more luxury.
Interestingly, but this isn’t the company’s first plug-in hybrid version. Not so long ago, Lincoln introduced the Aviator Grand Touring model. Corsair PHEV will offer 25 miles of EV range thanks to its 14.4-kWh battery. On top of that, this crossover will produce around 266 horses, and it will arrive at some point in 2020.
The forthcoming 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will combine a gasoline engine with the electric motor. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder is in the offer, along with the battery pack. This output will generate 266 horsepower, according to Lincoln. Moreover, it will use an electronic AWD setup. It is a dual-motor technology that provides a smooth and quality ride. Lincoln also promised 25 miles of all-electric driving range. Finally, the crossover will deploy a PowerSplit electric CVT transmission.
2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring – Battery and Charging
The all-new 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is using a 14.4-kWh battery pack. It is placed beneath the floor, so it does not intrude the interior room. Grand Touring model is offering a couple of driving modes. That includes Normal, Excite, Conserve, Slippery, Pure EV and Preserve EV. The last one saves battery power and is using an engine and motor at the same time.
In that way, the battery can be charged up to 75 percent. Lincoln said the new crossover will provide 25 miles of all-electric range. Moreover, the hybrid crossover will need three to four hours to fully charge on a Level 2 charger.
Inside the cabin, this luxury crossover will look very premium. That means you can expect a lot of cool features and a stylish interior design. For instance, phone as a key, numerous driver aids, and adjustable seats are just some of the premium features. The 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will look impressive in every possible way. Thanks to the electric powertrain, the ride is very smooth, and the interior is quiet. Lincoln also added more sound-insulating materials than on the regular Corsair model.
Furthermore, the Active Noise Control system is available. This system is using microphones and different types of sensors in order to improve sound quality inside the cabin. As for the cabin space, Grand Touring won’t offer more or less room than the base trim level. However, the legroom is ample, and the storage area is very generous. Lastly, Lincoln is offering its Co-Pilot 360 system as standard.
The small plug-in luxury crossover will have a lot of competitors. The 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will compete against PHEV variants of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Both models are offering more power, but Lincoln offers a slightly better driving range. Volvo could lead the segment with its XC60 T8 and its 415-horsepower output. However, Lincoln is focusing on luxury more than on performance.
